Dingxi Potato Research Institute was established in June 1998 as the first private potato research and seed potato production enterprise in Gansu Province, and was also the first to promote virus-free seed potato technology in Dingxi. Over the past 20 years, it has been engaged in the research, production, and sales of virus-free pre-elite seeds (minitubers), elite seeds, and commercial potatoes. Currently, it produces 60 million virus-free plantlets and nearly 100 million pre-elite seeds (minitubers) annually. Its products are sold to major production areas across China, and it exports over 10 million pre-elite seeds each year. The Xiangquan Base is a national demonstration zone for standardized production of virus-free pre-elite seeds and a seed potato export base.

The Institute has always adhered to the philosophy of driving enterprise development through technological innovation. In 2019, it was approved as one of the first batch of new-type research and development institutions in Gansu Province. It has participated in the formulation of two national standards for seed potato production, and owns five potato varieties with independent intellectual property rights, two invention patents, seven utility model patents, and four scientific and technological achievements of Gansu Province. In 2024, it established a Potato Virus Disease Testing Center and is actively promoting CNAS accreditation. It has jointly established graduate training bases with China Agricultural University, Northwest A&F University, Gansu Agricultural University, and Inner Mongolia University, continuously promoting in-depth integration of industry, academia, and research.

Adhering to the philosophy of "Focus, Quality, Service," the Institute has built 20,000 mu of mechanized seed potato and commercial potato production bases in Dingxi, Lanzhou New Area, Hexi, and other areas, with an annual output of over 50,000 tons. It has long been a stable supplier of processing potatoes to domestic and international potato processing enterprises.
